Hi,
This is to replace the message from news.microsoft.com. Newsgroup reader
wasn't set up correctly, and that's how it posted my message. I've
cancelled it, but don't know if the cancellation will take.
Anyway, here's the text of my message:
Hi,
I work quite a bit with older DOS programs. Normally, these work quite
well, but lately, there've been some problems. Namely, whenever I try to
start a DOS program, XP hangs for fifteen or twenty seconds before starting
the program. I am using Windows XP PRO, with SP2, and am using NTFS as my
file system. I actually installed SP2 as an attempt to fix the problem, but
it didn't make a difference. I've tried everything I can think of to fix
this. The following is what I've tried:
1. Ran defrag.
2. Ran Scandisk. It found no problems with the disk.
3. Installed all windows updates, INCLUDING SP2.
4. Cleared out the swap file by shrinking the size of the swap file and then
restoring it back to "normal" size after rebooting.
5. Uninstalled every program that I could think of that I don't need.
I've run out of ideas. Does anyone have any others? Because I work with
these DOS programs quite frequently, this has become annoying.
Thanks
