I have a Sony Viao laptop GRV670 on which I just loaded XP Pro. It was
running XP Home previously.

The system has 1GB of memory 512mbX2 dimms. Under Home it would
recognize the memory OK but since I loaded Pro it only sees 512mb.

I have loaded just about every patch from Sony and Microsoft, but still
no joy.

Ideas?

Thanks

have you checked your cmos/bios? Not sure about your motherboard, but some
have settings for the ram chips- like mine....

Does the BIOS see 1Gb? If not then the chips may need reseating or one
of them may have died (test this by trying each dimm in turn).

When I checked the BIOS it only shows 512mb...
I also pulled the memory dimms and changed slots. Checked for dip
switches but there are none in the access port for the memory. The
system still shows only 512mb. So appears dimms are ok.

But XP Home showed 1gb ???

I also have Solaris 10 loaded and it reports 1gb memory.

That is most strange.
What do the BIOS and the OS's report when you only use one DIMM at a
time?
