XP Pro and Old Adaptec Software Problem

OK, I recently upgraded a system and put on XP Pro. While I was away,
the user installed old EZ CD Creator software on the system. Of course
this caused an array of problems, and I have resolved all but 2. Firstly
the burner (liteon 8x4x32) is no longer reconized as a burner, but a cd-
rom drive only. Nero can use it as a burner tho. I have found the fix
for this at MS Support (KB316529, previously released as Q316529). The
second issue is this. How does one change the drive spec from CDROM
Drive to CD-RW Drive in the explorer tree.

XP did reconize this drive properly as a CD-RW after I initially
installed XP, but now it is a bit confused. I would like to resolve this
without rebuilding the enviroment, as a lot of effort has been put into
the setup at this point.

Any advice would be appreciated....

Thanks,

I suggest you uninstall the old version of CD Creator (which is likely not
compatible) and install version 6 or later.

Ya, I did that. But as you may know, the result of the original install
can be instabilty in the o/s and poor functionality of cd burner apps.
Some of the problems remain even after the product is uninstalled. IE
old drivers that have to be removed manually. My questions pertain to
the issues I described, not the original bad install that has already
been rectified.

I had the exact same problem 4 years ago when XP came out. The upgrade
advisor TOLD me that Roxio CD Creator 5 was NOT compatible. I went ahead
anyway. I never could get the system settled in. I ended up reinstalling the
O/S clean, not an upgrade from what already had CD Creator in it. And then I
used Nero until Roxio came out with an upgrade certified for XP.

I then installed CD Creator as per Roxio's instructions and had no problems.
I have since upgraded twice to their latest version, all without any
problems.

Sorry I can not be of more help, but at least you know what I had to do.

All info helps in some way.

I'd prefer not to put roxio back on. I had problems all over the place
with the all revisions that went thru the mill. Nero isn't perfect, but
it gets the job done. I find it interesting tho, that XP uses Roxio to
support cdrw instead of their own system.

Thanks for your time and input,

I agree with the first half of that advice.

Every version of CD Creator that I've tried (including the one
bundled in XP) has been incredibly annoying, and there are plenty of
free alternatives out there.
