Is it correct that WinXP Pro has no ICS facilities?

If so, my friend bought a Dell computer with XP Pro pre-installed. She
wishes to share her Internet connection between 2 computers. Is it possible
to install XP HE on the machine instead, and if it can be done, are there
any issues to watch for?

Thanks.

No. Windows XP Pro has ICS.
XP Pro has *everything* XP Home has and more.

Start | Run | Type: HelpCtr | OK |
Type: ics in the Search box | Click the green arrow |
Pick one of the 68 results | Read all about it.

Both Windows XP Pro and Windows XP Home Edition include ICS. However, even
though ICS is OK for just two computers, with a router all computers can
access the internet, or each other via file sharing, and be totally
independent so that there is no such thing as a "Host" computer. With ICS,
the "Host" computer must be up and running before the "Client" computer can
access the internet.

No, that's completely false.

There is *nothing* in XP Home that is not also in Professional.
Home is a subset of professional. You may not need the extra
features of Professional, but even if you don't there is no
advantage to having Home instead.

Thanks to all who replied. I must admit, I thought it sounded false, as I
always believed XP Pro to have everything that XPHE has, and more besides.

Thanks again.

This is true, but ONLY if the internet connection is using broadband.
If the system in questions connects via dialup, then the router method
(by default, when routers are mentioned, it is assumed they are
cable/DSL routers), then the router method is unavailable and they are
stuck using Internet Crappy Sharing software, with all the headaches
it brings.
