XP Pro Administrator login password stops working

I set up my friend's computer for him. He's been using it fine for four
months, logging in as Administrator using the password he selected.

Suddenly, that password no longer works. He has not just 'forgotten' it.
It worked for months, and both he and I know what it is.

It is not a Caps problem; checked. It doesn't seem to be a faulty keyboard
problem; when he logs in as Guest, the keyboard buttons required for the
password function fine.

I know I may have to drive to his place and reinstall the OS for him. I
mainly wondered if anyone else has experienced a login problem in which
'forgetting the password' was not a reasonable possibility?

Thanks, SS. I'm also curious to know if there are others out there who are
SURE they have not 'forgotten' their password but still can't log-on.
