XP PRO administrator account

I have the administrator account on XP Pro, but when loading some programmes
it does not recognise this and I get a dialogue box saying that I don't have
administartor access rights and can't proceed. I've tried opening a new user
acount but get the same result. This affects quite a few (but not all)
programmes. I'm runningMcAfee firewall, and it happens whether the firewall
is running or disabled.Any solutions gratefully received.
 
When you did your initial installation did you put a
password in for the Administrator account?

Also are you using fast user switching, as you can Press
CTRL+ALT+DEL twich for a normal windows login and log the
Administrator in that way.

Yes, that is why the applications do not see the correct information.
