XP printer card problem

L

Lindsay Cripps

Added a 2 port parallel card ( Skymaster) to a dual boot system running 98se
& XP Pro on two hard drives (C & D)
I installed the drivers in 98 after the system picked up the ports (LPT2 &
LPT3) then installed the printer on LPT2. Printed from the printer ok.

I then installed the drivers in XP after the printer picked up the
ports.Once again the ports (LPT2 & LPT3) appeared in device manager as PCI
EPP/ECP parallel Port (LPT2) & PCI EPP/ECP parallel port (LPT3) under ports.
Also PCI 4018 Multi-I/O Adapter under Multifunction adapter. All look good at
this stage.

However when installing the printer neither LPT2 or LPT3 are available under
ports to use. Even installing using plug & play the system identifies the
printer but the installation fails because the port cannot be found.

Can someone offer some advice here please.

I'm not sure how many newsgroups you have crossposted to (at least seven
others that I have seen today), but you already have several responses.
Please limit the posts to as few newsgroups as possible.

Technically - they did not cross-post - which would have been okay with me.
They multi-posted. That is ick.

I had a hard time finding this post.. Google group search turned up one in
"microsoft.public.windowsxp.help_and_support", where the only answer I don't
believe addressed the problem.. (Since it works in 98 on the same machine -
but not in XP.) I do see you asked a question in
"microsoft.public.windowsxp.print_fax" which I will repeat below...
____
Cari (MS-MVP) asked:
In the Device Manager, under the LPT ports, are they both set to Enable
Legacy Plug and Play?
____

I could find only five postings (admittedly multi-posted instead of
cross-posted) in different newsgroups from this user about this problem. I
do wish they would learn to cross-post at the very least, but I hope now
that the answer/question that may lead to the answer is in two of the five
places, they will be able to find it.
