xp performance

I have been running counterstrike on my 900 celeron with
256 mb ram along with windows 2000, however i recently
upgraded to windows xp. Now i experience moments every
minute or so when the game freezes for about 3 seconds,
then catches up with the server. What can i do to end
this lag? Does xp use that many more system resources?

I do not know about that game but fs2002 needs more memory than that to run on XP
