My computer only accepts one USB scanner connected at a time. When the first
scanner is turned on it's accepted an works fine.
The second scanner is recognized but the device manager gives it a yellow
mark with text: Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware
because a previous instance of the device driver is still in memory. (Code
38).
If the first scanner is turned off and the computer is booted, then the
second scanner works fine.
I upgraded to SP2 but it did not help. Switching around the USB cables makes
no difference. The USB mouse works fine.
The scanners are CanoScan 9900F and LexmarK X83. The computer has four USB
1.1 ports with two internal SIS 7001 controllers.
Can anyone help?

Hi,

The native scanner utility can only work with one scanner at a time.

Hi Rick,

Thanks for your answer.
Does this mean that there is no way to solve my problem?

Hi,

The only way to resolve it is to use a third-party scanning program that
supports two or more installed scanners.
