XP on a really small disk.....

Had XP on a 3Gb HD laptop, together with some other progs, and then found
that there wasn't enough room to install SP2. So re-installed XP from
scratch (e.g. formatted HD), immediately installed SP2 successfully. But now
only got 300Mb spare space. It might be termed an 'experimental' PC - that
is, there will be no real critical data on it, but would like to be able to
install some progs to support a decent Internet browsing experience (e.g.
Acrobat reader, Office readers, etc.).

Question - what can I safely delete? I'd like to get rid of things like MS
Movie Maker, but can't see how to (other that delete the folder..?). What
about the all the "$NTUninstall...." folders under c:\windows (comes to
500Mb - that would do it)? Any advice appreciated (other than "buy a new
laptop", or "buy a new harddisk" [none other than VERY expensive OEM
available, and not sure that the laptop will go above 3Gb anyway....]. Too
useful to throw away, but want to make it useable......).

TIA,

The $NTUninstall........ folders are backups of files that were replaced when various "hotfixes" were installed for the OS and other included applications. If you don't need to remove the updates, these folders can be safely deleted. You can also go to Add/Remove Programs, Windows Components and remove a number of programs that you may not need or use.

These are the uninstall routines for various service pack and or hotfixes.
If you don't expect to ever require to back down from them then yes you can
delete them.

With Movie Maker, deleting the folder is about all you can do. But the
$NTUninstall ones can go, and possibly some others added by the SP2
install - see the Tidying up section at Installing SP2:
