XP not for Sale anymore?

Since Vista has been released for businesses on November 30th 2006 I noticed
that some (not most LOL) retailers have taken Windows XP off their shelves
and their Website Store.

I mean dont get me wrong, I'm not looking for it for myself it just seems
that now no one can buy an Operating System til probably Vista is released?

Let me give you a couple examples

1.) I work at WalMart, the store where I work at hasnt had Windows XP OS on
their shelf since early November

2.) WalMart.com doesnt have any Windows XP OS to buy

3.) Best Buy (website) also doesnt have Windows XP OS to buy.

Is this some tactic to get to people to wait and wait and wait til January
30th so they almost nearly have to buy Windows Vista and then dish out a lot
of money? $100.00 to $400.00????

What I need to do is see if we still have that shelf label on our mod at the
store and do some research.

Perhaps that OS version was the very first Win XP released. In fact; its
probably the one I own "Windows XP Home Edition"; with no Service Packs on
Disc.

I noticed that if you head to Buy.com that they actually do have a couple
different versions for sale (BTW Microsoft if you read this, the better
choice is just to get rid of the first one entirely, you can buy the first
one for 99.99 and then spend a few hours downloading Free Patches?? Or
apparently buy the OS with Service Pack 2 included except pay 100.00 more
bleh)

Anyways has anyone noticed this either? That Windows XP isnt on the shelves
at the moment perhaps awaiting for Vista???

Plenty brick and mortar and online retailers are carrying XP. See this link
about the product life cycle.

Wal-Mart has Windows XP:

And so does Best Buy:

As for your particular store, my guess is they are temporarily out, but you
need to ask your management.

"first one entirely", I am not sure you are seeing what you think you are.
You can no longer buy Windows XP without SP-2 unless you are buying old
stock.
Either way the cost is the same.
However OEM is cheaper.
Upgrades are also cheaper.
Look closer at the boxes you do see in the store.

Wal-Mart..... Wally-Word is targeting their customer base.
Their customers would rather play grand-thief-auto.
Plus, Wally can't BULLY Microsoft on prices like it does to 95% of their
venders.

Well I asked today and we do still have the shelf label up but said that its
up to the Vendor to ship them to us. So I'm wondering if thats Microsofts
doing? That Microsoft should send Win XP to WalMart Distribution Center then
to the store??

Oh well; 26 more days and Windows Vista will be released WOOT
