XP networking

I have two computers, one running XP the other running ME.
We are connected to a router and to a cable router, yet we
can't see each other or share anything via the LAN. Any
ideas?

1. Check that the Windows XP built in Firewall or third party firewalls is
off on each machine
2. Can you ping each machine by name and by IP
3. Have you created any network shares?
