I'm having trouble setting up my network behind a router.
When I hook up directly to the cable modem I can access
the internet just fine, but as soon as I go through the
router I cannot connect to the internet. Can anyone give
me some advice?

How is the router configured.
Typically for a cable connection, it is set to obtain an IP address
automatically.
Some basic steps are:

1. Connect the cable to the WAN port on the router.
2. Connect the computers to the Ethernet port on the router
3. Turn on the cable modem and wait a minute or so.
4. Turn on the router and wait a minute or so
5. Turn on the computers
6. Can you access the router from a web browser according to the
manufacturer's instructions
7. Can you ping an external IP address
8. Can you ping an external web site by name.

How do you have your router set up ? typically you will set the router up to dhcp as a client on the WAN (ISP) side, also you will need to configure the router to act as a DHCP/ NAT server so you PC hosts can get out.
