XP network; one machine can see but can't be seen

I have a four station XP network using a Netgear Wireless router. 3
machines are wired to it; one is wireless connection.

All four machines get their settings properly via DHCP.
All four machines can get to internet.
All four machines can be pinged by address from station 1 BUT on stations 2,
3 and 4 they can only see each other but NOT station 1. I've looked at all
of the settings on station 1 that I can think of but it all looks the same
as the other stations to me. What would prevent other connections from
being able to ping it?

The only difference I see is that on station 1 there is a second connection
called "Wan Network Driver" but I even disabled that and it didn't do any
good.

I got the machine that couldn't be pinged to finally be able to be seen by
the other machines. Seems I had a couple of folders on that machine set up
as shares but the "Allow network users to change my files" box was NOT
checked. Once I checked that box on the shared folders, the box could be
seen. Seems odd to me - since the IP address itself shouldn't be dependent
upon the folders ON the box - but those are the facts and that was the only
change I made.
