XP My Network Looses ALL folders

B

Bob A

Have 3 PC's networked with router - XP, 2k, 98. Out of the
blue, all the folders in My Network Places on the XP
disappear along with all connections. I can re-establish
all, but then they disappear the next day or so.
Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks.

Perhaps these will help
Make sure that the Network Connections service is running:
1. Right click My Computer, and click Manage.
2. Double click Services and Applications.
3. Double click Services.
4. Double click Network Connections. If the Service status is
Stopped, click Start.

And maybe....
See this Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

You Cannot Create a Network Connection After You Restore Windows XP

Thanks for the response.
The Network Connections Service IS running, so that
didn't do it.
Also, the MSKB link you sent is "Not Available." I'll try
it again later.
Thanks again.

I tried everything that the article recommended without
success. I refreshed and rebooted. I can ping all the
machines on the network, I can get to the Internet, but I
still can't see any folders in My Net Places. They were
there 2 days ago.
Still stumped!

Sorry that didn't help. Here's a few other thoughts and some questions.

If you try to map a drive on one of the other comptuers with the net command
can you then access it in Windows Explorer?
(If you're not familiar with this, open a command prompt and run >net use
/?
An example of use is >net use Q: \\pcname\C )

You indicated you were able to "re-establish" the connections when they
failed earlier. Did they just come back after rebooting, or did you do
something in partiular?
This problem was intermittent before, but now has lasted for 2 days?

Have you double checked that the XP firewall is not enabled? (I realize
you didnt change this, but would still double check it.) Also, if your
router has a built in firewall, you might want to see if anything has
changed. Also, it may have a log file that would give some indication

Can the other machines see/access the XP machines folders and each other?

Are you running XP Pro or Home?
