XP MBR Error

When I tried to bring my PC out of idle mode I received an error message
"Master Boot Record Error - Press Any Key." When I pressed any key I got
"Disk Load Error - Please Insert Disk and Press Enter" - or something along
those lines. I have tried F8 and F10 at start-up with no results...the PC
makes it through the blue start-up screen, then a black screen with a
blinking cursor, then a blank screen. I know my keyboard is working but
won't type anything. I have read the other MBR posts but it is not enough
detail to help me, especially since I can't (or maybe do not know how) get
into the Recovery Console.

I have a HP Pavilion a288n. I am using Windows XP Home Edition. Can
anybody please help me???

I couldn't find the other posts you mentioned.
the mbr is the master boot record. as soon as the pc comes on keep hitting
the delete button until an options screen comes up. This is a touchy place to
be and if you don't feel comfortable with it Do not do it. you will see a
screen with two columns of options. go down and look ...should say hit F6 or
along that line to load fail safe options. do this and when it asks to save
select y for yes and hit enter. then hit f 10 to save and exit, select y and
enter. reboot and hopefully this will solve it.

tried the delete button method - no results. nothing happened when I did
that, and in order to get any other menu to come up I had to repeatedly press
the esc button, and I got a Boot menu, with the options removable, hard disk,
and CDROM.

thanks for trying to help...any other ideas?
