xp machine ie

I have a user who has a xp machine, he is able to browe internet using IE
only by typing the full interenet address, if just www. google.com, nothing
happens, but
type http://www.google.com, the sites comes up, it happens for every sites.

any one has any idea on this one? it is kind of odd.
 
Have you tried while in IE going to Tools>Internet
Options>Advanced>Restore Defaults. Click on RD and Apply.
