XP logon screen failure

XP Pro seems to get stuck before it can display the different local user
accounts. The mouse is still function and it appears the XP is not frozen.
However, since there are no accounts list no one can log in, CRTL+ALT+DEL
twice won't bring up the administrator account either.
 
Thanks for the article Rich. However, going into either Safe mode or Safe
mode with Command Prompt is not functional either. Had to run a repair from
a CD and copy over a corrupt profile.
