I downloaded and Installed Windows update for WINNXP (Home
Edition). Upon completion of update, the computer
rebooted.
When XP came back on, I got the login page [To begin,
click username] But I did not get username & password
prompt.
Can you please help bring back Username & password prompt
so I can log in.

Many Thanks!

Home edition has no networking support.
You can set up different users on the PC itself, but there's no
network/domain you'll be able to log into.
Thank Microsoft for that bit of brilliance :)

Get XP Pro instead.

First, I think the op is saying that his user name doesn't show on the
welcome screen anymore. Second XP home is fully compatible with networking.
It can be networked in a workgroup environment. What xp home cannot do is
log into a domain, but it can be networked. And actaully it was very smart
of MS to do this seeing as how 99.9% of home users don't log into a domain
at home and xp home is made for home(not work, hence the name xp home),
there is no reason to have home be able to log into a domain. If you need to
log into a work domain then you get xp pro, designed for work environment
networks.

I exclusively use XP Pro but I hope this applies to Home
edition also.

Click Start-->Control Panel--->User Accounts

The third option under "Pick a Task" should be "Change
the way users log on or off"

Make sure to uncheck both "Use the Welcome Screen"
and "Use Fast User Switching" - Click on the Apply
options button.

Please notify me if this has been of any assistance.

I can't test this where I am, but I think that when at
the screen to click the username, if you press ctrl-alt-
del it will give you the regular login prompt for that
session.

Thanks for all your help.. ctrl-alt-del gave me the
regular login prompt with my username: I got an error:
Invalid user account.
Is this common after upgrade Windows Update ? & do we know
why I did not get a normal password promppt.
Pls. help, I have a lot of data on the System. I hate to
rebuild the system since it seems I am locked out of the
sysstem.
**Any help would be greatly appreciated. Many Thanks!

This is completely false. Windows XP Home edition does just fine
on Peer-to-Peer networks. It can't join a domain, but that's a
very different statement from "Home edition has no networking
support."
