Uuum. If Windows XP SP2, ends October 26, 2006, and SP3 release is 2H 2007
(What is 2H? Jan?),that's a 2 month lapse, does this spell open season on
Windows/IE. Not to speak about 98 has ended this month. Lotsa 98's out
there.

Just curious.

Windows XP SP1 support will end on October 10, 2006. According to the
Microsoft website, Windows XP SP2 support will continue for 12 months
after the next service pack is released or when the lifecycle for
Windows XP is up whichever comes first.

Looks like Xandros is addressing this issue by offering a 50 percent mail-in
rebate for anyone upgrading from Win98. What a heck of a deal!

Now all these users can keep their old hardware and run a modern operating
system without the need to worry about M$ dropping its support.

Well, hopefully a lot of those older computers can keep running with the
help of Linux and be saved from ending up in the landfills taking up
lots of space while they still work correctly.

What link are you looking at? I wrote MS about this issue and they
responded that they would continue support of XP for another two years
after the next release of the product. Check here:

XP Home will get another two years of support after the release of Vista
and XP Professional will get the two years of support plus five years of
extended support after that. Did you read my statement correctly? I
said Windows XP SP2 has 12 months of support left after the next service
pack or when the lifecycle of Windows XP is up. Here is the link.
