XP licensing

Can I take the XP license that I bought with my 1st PC and install it on the
second one? The 2 PC's are only for home usage

Read the agreement you made with Microsoft on this (run "winver" to see
the End User License Agreement).

You will learn you agreed not to do this.

install and activate windows, it will not activate because it is already
activated in use.

Hi,

1) If your first system came preinstalled, it will probably not install to
any other machine.

2) The license for WinXP is one copy per machine, so no, you can't use it
this way. You need to purchase a regular retail full version.

3) While an OEM full version may be cheaper, its limitations may bite you
later. No support from MS in the event of problems, and it's not
transferable to another system if the original installation dies.

Your End User License Agreement prohibits this activity. Plus if you
try to install and activate windows, it will not activate because it
is already activated in use.

Total FUD, Travis! At most he'd have to talk to a PA phone rep and say
that he did a major upgrade, and if he last activated his copy more than
120 days ago, the activation should go through via the internet.

If you unistall XP form the first machine, and it is not an OEM
version. Otherwise you need tob uy a second license, or full install
package.

As it has *always* been with *all* Microsoft operating systems, it's
necessary (to be in compliance with both the EULA and copyright laws,
if not technically) to purchase one WinXP license for each computer on
which it is installed. The only way in which WinXP licensing differs
from that of earlier versions of Windows is that Microsoft has finally
added a copy protection and anti-theft mechanism, Product Activation,
to prevent (or at least make more difficult) multiple installations
using a single license.

Ask the schmuck, exactly what copyright laws is he talking about. He'll
either ignore you, or avoid coming up with a specific copyright law like
it was the effin' plague!
