XP keeps resetting my local machine's time zone to pacific

Hi. I've looked around for a solution, but nothing jumps out (and yes, I did
do the change through the GUI). For whatever reason, XP keeps changing the
time zone to Pacific, and I keep changing it to Eastern. After many months
of this game, I'd like to end it. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

This usually happens if you are synchronizing to a time server in the
wrong part of the world or perhaps you have some security software that
is preventing changes. Zone Alarm, Spybot, Ad-aware, Norton, etc. all
have this function. Of course if this is a company machine 1) on a
domain a standard user can't change the time/date; 2) not on a domain
but configured by the IT Dept. to prevent standard users from making
these changes. Since we don't know anything about your computer, that's
about all I can suggest.

Malke:

Thanks for the reply. Here're the answers to your questions:

1. I'm running a company standard version of Symantec. I can make the time
change - and it's still implemented given a couple of reboots this morning,
so I don't think this is it. I'm also running defender, but not always.

2. The time server is time.windows.com, which was the default I believe.
Should I use someplace else?

3. While this is a company machine, I'm responsible for it. So, no IT to
blame...

What happens is once in a while, sometime frequently, sometimes not, the
time zone gets set to pacific. I've assumed so far that this was some inside
joke from an author out in WA, which I can see the humor in it. But now I
just want to fix it.

'Time.windows.com' has been a problem since day 1. Use tock.usno.navy.mil
and your troubles will be over.

You're quite welcome. 99.99% assured you won't have any problems but, if you
fall into the .01% let me know.
