Help! I installed XP on my home computer and every time
I go online after a few minutes I get a message: "A
shutdown of your computer has been initiated by NT
Authority|system---the Remote Procedure Calll service
terminated unexpectedly" WHAT IS GOING ON?

Apparently, your computer is infected with the W32.Blaster.Worm or one of its variants.
This happened because you have not been using an internet connection firewall and have
apparently neglected to install the critical updates available at the Windows Update website.

If your computer is constantly attempting to shutdown
or reboot, quickly go to:

Start > Run and type: CMD , and hit enter.
This opens the Command Prompt window.

Then type: shutdown -a , and hit enter.

This should halt the rebooting problem.

Then immediately turn-on Windows XP's built-in Firewall:

Mark,

I also keep getting this same message and I just pulled
my pre-installed sysstem out of the box. If you go to
your connections, either dial-up or Network connections,
go to props. of network conn. and once you hit props. on
that, the RPC is what comes up next. What to do with it,
I'm not sure, but, that's where you'll find the RPC box.

As told by Carey ,
Your computer has been infected by W32.blaster worm. You
have to install the microsoft security patch first to stop
the computer from shutting down.

You can go to this link and download the patch and once
you install patch ..you have to go to the Norton website
to download the removal tool which will scan your computer
and remove the virus from your computer..

http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/FixBlast.exe

You go to this link , directly it'll ask you whether you
wanna OPEN the program or SAVE it .. Jst open the
program . it'll download and you'll have a scanning
screen , click on START .. let it scan the computer and at
the end it'll tell you it has removed the virus
sucessfully from your computer.

Thats it... You are ready to go
