forced shutdown

Have recently installed Win XP Home and keep getting
forced shutdowns from IE6.

Shut down initiated by NT Authority/system

Remote procedure call terminated.


What is happending and how do I stop it. I have tried
unsuccessfully to download updates, but keep getting this
message followed by a shut down.

My Av s/ware is up to date
