How do I go about installing xp over Windows 98? I want to load it on a Dell l550r with 128MB ram.

Your best bet is to do this:
1. Back up your data.
2. Boot the machine with your WinXP CD.
3. Select "Install".
4. Allow the disk to be formatted.

While upgrading from Win98 is possible, you would
end up with a far more robust and stable configuration
if you did a clean installation.
