The problem started when I chose to compress files on my
C drive via the properties box. After the pc did that I
got an error message that some of my windows files had
been replaced with older versions and I should insert the
XP disk. When I did that, the menu said my Norton GOBACK
must be uninstalled so I did. It also said my CD Creator
may have incompatible files, though it did not say I must
uninstall that application I did anyway. Then the XP
Setup contiuned until the error below came up.
I read the docs you referred me to. Dont think its
hardware related because all worked fine this morning and
last couple months since my upgrade from ME to XP.
I tried Safe Mode, error saying Setup cannot operate in
Safe Mode.., tried CD disk boot from the XP cd, all
options brought me back to the "Restarting setup ......."
screen. How do I get away from booting up into that
screen? Or get to DOS to copy the old SYSSETUP.INF that
is not corrupted? OR do a RESTORE to an earlier system
version?
Stuck with no where to go but that Start up screen! HELP>
