XP Installaion Issue

Upgrade from ME to XP reports blocking issue for
"Microsoft Shared Fax Client"

How do i unistall this s/w. not listed in the add/remove
program list in ME.

Your response will be most appreciated.

Open up My Computer.
Go to Tools, Folder Options.
Put a check in "Show hidden files and folders".
Click on Start, then Run.
Type in: CMD.
Type in: cd\ , then hit enter
Type in: dir fxsclnt.exe /s
Remember what directory you found the file in.
Type in Exit.
Double click on My Computer.
Right-click on the C: drive and click on Explorer.
Find the directory that housed the fxsclnt.exe.
Delete the file and restart.

Now, you should be able to upgrade to Windows XP.

I tried to search and delete the file fxsclnt.exe on the
DOS prompt after enabling the Show system and hidden files
option in My Computer as per your post. However this file
does not exist on my hd(only 1).

This is my second attempt to upgrade. my first attempt was
successfull. The only blocking issue reported was a VPN
client. After i uninstalled that, XP was installed.

However after that 2 issues surfaced

1. No programs present in Administrative tools under
control panel.

2. Trying to install an application using Windows
Installer Package (.msi) resulted in error.

MS Support got me to manually create shortcuts for the
issue 1.

For issue 2 , support told me to uninstall XP , remove
mcafee virus and then reinstall XP again. After removing
mcafee when i try to install XP, this is when it started
identifying MS Shared Fax Client as a blocking issue.

If u have any pointers, please do let me know.
