While installing my retail copy of Xp , which I have owned and used for
numerous years ,I have come across a install problem that I am unable to
figure out. While doing a new install of a formatted disk the install will
stop with a message of "non system file being installed". If I proceeded I
recieve this message on other files over and over. The computer Has had XP
installed in the past with no such error. I even have tried a copy of this
XP disk and the same results . I have no devices installed. Why is reading
nonsytem file off a retail XP disk?

Your cdrom could be failing...
but it is possible that it's a RAM problem

try running a ram test
