I have bulit new system with Intel MB and processor and
SATA HD. When running winnt.exe from the install CD it
says it cannot find a hard drive.
"Setup was unable to locate such a drive with the
required amount of free space."
It's a 160GB drive with nothing on it. The setup program
from Seagate said it was formatted and ready to go. This
version of XP is 1.5 years old, is it not able to find
the SATA drive?

Press the F6 key when prompted right after the system begins booting from
the CD. This will tell setup you have additional drivers to install for
your SATA controller. You will be asked to insert a disk containing the
drivers a little further into the install routine.

Follow the prompts and continue setup. Once setup knows the SATA controller
exists, setup should detect the drive and available space properly and
continue.

Good Luck and Happy New Year!

Not sure. I have not tried.

I would guess you could burn the drivers to a CD or insert the manufacturer
supplied CD and it would try to find them.

Good Question...Anyone else?
