I am tryihg to install XP on a new hard drive and the
installation goes all the way through the DOS portion and
says setup has completed successfully and then reboots
and starts the DOS portion of the setup all over again
instead of going on to the gui part. When I take the CD
out before it reboots after DOS setup, the computer says
to insert bootable media so I have to put the CD in again
and reboot and then it goes through the loop again. I
have also tried leaving the CD in the drive after the DOS
set up portion and the result is that it takes e back
through the DOS portion of XP install.
Any help anyone can provide will save my sanity!
Thanks
Rindie

Thanks for your help. Unfortunately, I have tried not
pressing anything and taking out the CD so that the
computer has no choice to boot from the hard drive after
set up, but all I get is " Reboot and Select proper boot
device or insert boot media in selected boot device" This
is currently on my screen as we speak.
Inmy BIOS I have it set up to first boot from removable
media, then CD then hard drive. I have tried making it
boot to hard drive first and nothing changes.
Any other ideas?
Thanks!!

You should open your BIOS and change the boot order to the following:

1. CD-ROM Drive
2. Hard Drive
3. Floppy Drive

I changed it to that order with no change. I still
get "Reboot and Select proper boot device or insert boot
media in selected boot device"
Is there some sort of file missing that setup did not
copy or something?
My hard drive is 80 GB is that a factor?
Thanks,
Rindie

Do not press a key when Windows XP Setup restarts your computer the first time.
The BIOS will start your computer from your hard disk, and Windows XP Setup will continue.

If the above does not work, download the setup disks:

If your have a Windows XP CD with SP1, you need to download
the setup disks for use with the Windows XP SP1 installation CD.

If your Windows XP installation CD does not include SP1,
use the setup disks for the "original release" of Windows XP.
