XP Install Intel to AMD

I just purchased a new HP Laptop with an AMD 64 bit processor installed.

Rather than spend the next 2 weeks installing dozens of pieces of software
from CDs/DVDs, I thought it would be quite simple to make an image of the C
drive of the old PC to my external USB drive and then copy the USB drive to
my now formatted HP laptop, especially since the OSs are identical (XP HOME
SP2).

The disk imaging and move went fine, however upon booting the new laptop I
receive a STOP 0x0000007E error.
Because the system does boot successfully in SAFE mode (and correctly
installed all the necessary drivers), I'm assumng there may be a problem
because the old HP laptop was an Intel chip and the new HP laptop is an AMD.

Please tell me there something I can do (registry or otherwise) to get this
working, short of having to install Windows, dozens of CDs/DVDs, copy over
data files one at a time, etc....

Thanks in advance,
Evan

sometimes, and I repeat, sometimes, you can install the drivers for the
new board and cards/devices before you make the image, then using the
device manager you can delete the Intel specific devices, image it,
install in new machine, and get far enough into safe mode that you can
install the rest of the drivers.

You could also do a repair/reinstall of XP that might work.

No. Can't be done.

And it's also possible that you might have invalidated the warranty on the
HP.......

Not true, as I contacted HP before hand.

But thanks for the off topic response. Apparently reading isn't your
specialty.

Just like to cover all eventualities......you're quite unique in contacting
your vendor about the warranty - most people just jump in.
