XP Install - BSOD During File Copy

K

Kelly Leitch

I receive a BSOD during the file copy stage of XP
installation. The drive formats fine and begins copying
files. Some files will kick out a file copy error. You
can either retry or skip. If I hit retry most files will
copy on the second try. Some will not so I hit skip.
Eventually the BSOD occurs. If I try back to back
installs the files which do not copy are not always the
same.

I am using a AMD Barton +3200 processor on a MSI
motherboard with a 400FSB using PC3200 memory, DVD+R/W
drive and a SATA Seagate drive. I have tried using 1 or
2 memory modules. I have removed all other components
except keyboard, mouse and monitor. I have tried
installing to a standard IDE drive as well. I have also
replaced the motherboard with an identical model. I have
tried different cables. I have tried 3 differnt Windows
XP disks and 1 Windows 2000 disk.

End result is BSOD everytime.

This is the fourth Windows XP machine I have built for
friends and relatives. I have never had this problem
before.

It appears your RAM may be defective....try using
different RAM. Make sure there is no over-clocking
set in the BIOS.
