BSOD

I am working on my father-in-law's computer. He was having trouble with it
locking-up and freezing. I did a repair installation of XP, and it worked
fine for about a week, then started freezing again. I tried doing another
repair, and get the dreaded BSOD.

System Info:

Enpower Tower (PC Club)
Foxconn 661M03 Motherboard
P4 @ 3.06 Ghz /HT
2 GB ram PC3200 DDR
ATI Radeon Video, 64MB AGP
Western Digital 40GB HD
XP Home SP2

Don't know what else you need for system, but ask.

BSOD appears during installation of Windows. I get to enter product key, and
it gets to screen that says "Installing Files" then somewhere, BSOD.

Screen says:
" A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent
damage to your computer.

DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

If this is the first time.............(You all know the rest!)

Technical information:

***STOP: 0x000000D1 (0x00000018, 0x00000005, 0x00000001, 0xF74C1D7F)
*** atapi.sys.sys - Address F74C1D7F base at F74C0000, Datestamp 41107b4d

Beginnig dump of physical memory

I ran memtest+86; #1 Tuff-test; Ultimate boot CD with Diagnostics for WD.
Nothing out of ordinary reported, except tufftest reports rotational speed
problem with 3.5" FDD. But as I am installing from DVD-RW/CD-RW, can't see
that would have any effect.

Any help or ideas are greatly appreciated!

Check the IDE cables. Could be errors introduced during copying.

Also, if you're having problems, I would back up whatever data you need to
keep and do a clean install.

I will try changing cables. I have a new Maxtor 80 GB HD; I tried to do the
clean install on it with no luck.

Thanks for suggestion. I will post back results!

If you can, go in the safe mode, copy your important files, format the hard
disk and re-install windows on it.

All:

Problem is (was) MB is fried. Time to scavenge and salvage parts. I put HD
into external case, and we got a new tower. Things going OK now.

Thanks for all assistance.
