Every time I try to reinstall Windows XP home on my HP Pavillion a430n,
I get an error pointing to usbport.sys. Strange, as I don't even have
any usb devices hooked up.

Someone from work says it could be the result of bad ram. Any ideas?

If you have a retail copy of xp,simply install xp cd,boot to cd (set in BIOS
if
needed-1st boot device or similiar),at xp cd boot menu, install xp,new copy,
delete the partition (xp),create one, then xp formats and does a clean
install.

Unfortunately, I've tried that, and just just after setp finishes
examining the system and gives me the menu about install options,
that's when it crashes. I don't even get a chance to install.

(Have tried 2 different XP cds -- my original one, and one slipstreamed
with SP2)

Since the retail cds didn't seem to work. (Crashing shortly after
bootup), I found and tried out my HP restore cds.

It boots up, copies all the stuff over, then boots up into Windows to
complete setup, and then crashes. I'm at my wit's end here. Anyone else
had this problem?
