usbport.sys using all CPU capacity

Hi,
I've searched the threads and didn't find any solution to my problem.

I have a HP Pavillion a1267c running Windows XP 2005 Media center
Edition with Service pack 3.

When I boot up my USB ports don't funciton. Some of them supply power
but there is no recognition of the devices plugged into them.

When I run Process Explorer it shows "System" (Not "Sysytem Idle") as
using between 96 - 100% of CPU. When I right click on properties it
shows USBPORT.SYS as the thread/process that is using all the CPU
percentage. I can Disable USBPORT.SYS and my CPU usage drops to 5%.
But USB's are all unusable.

I installed a USB PCI card and its USB ports function fine (even after
i disable USBPORT.SYS). My problem is that everytime I start/reboot, I
have to go to Process Explorer to disable USBPORT.SYS or my CPU is
consumed by it. I'm ok with this workaround but others who use the
computer can't handle it well.

I've gone to HP, Windows, and the other component web sites and
downloaded whatever updates I can.

I've uninstalled the USB ports via Device Manager (in regular and Safe
mode) and rebooted - all to no avail.

Any help would be great.

Do you actually have USB devices attached at boot time? This isn't quite
clear and is important, because some times ports or devices will malfunction
and prevent proper booting or system operation.

Power down, disconnect all non-critical USB devices, meaning mouse and
keyboard, and restart the system. If it reboots and operates normally,
re-attach the USB devices one at a time until you find which one(s) are
malfunctioning.

Have you asked HP support? You may need to uninstall all USB ports, shut
down, disable (if possible) the onboard USB in the BIOS, and restart to
allow the add-on card to be re-detected. Does that change anything?
