My son does have a partition, he is running nero 7 but does not know how to
access the partition to restore the system back to factory. Computer is a
dell.

This isn't really relevant to XP Pro or Nero. The recovery partition on
your system is a Dell feature, and if you're having difficulties with it
you should contact Dell.

The keystroke to enter the Recovery partition is normally displayed on the
screen as the system boots from power-on (warm restarts may not show this).

You should assume that the recovery process will delete all user data, so if
there's data you want to keep, back it up *before* starting the recovery.
To do this, it's often easiest to attach the drive to another XP system and
copy the data off.

The Dell manual tells how how to restore to factory settings.
If this is lost, you can download it in PDF from the Dell
web site. Important notes: the Restore function will
wipe data files (in all partitions I think) and added installed
software i.e. you will have to reinstal Nero 7 and others.

On my system it is Ctrl + Enter , as it`s booting up .

May I add that with a recovery partition, you would not need to use Nero 7
as the very existence of such a partition put there by the manufacturer,
means that your system is capable of restoring this partition (copying it)
to your system partition (overwriting it) even when the XP operating system
has failed. The recovery option will have its own mini-operating system
and imaging software that starts up instead of XP.

Thus, you will find on the system you have has a message on booting it that
says something like "Press F2 for recovery options" but it could be any key
combination (but the F - number keys are the most common) .

Since you are on a working computer with internet access right now, I would
take this opportunity to look up "System Recovery" or "Recovery Partition"
on the dell website, after selecting your computer model type.

If you are talking about the Dell Recovery partition, then open "My
Computer", open the icon called "Recovery", open the "Tools" folder
and use the program called "PC Restore",

Before that, though, backup all data you need from the operating
partition, usually the C: drive. If you have more than 2 partitions
(C: and Recovery) then data in the other partitions should not be
touched but back up anyway in case something goes wrong.
