Simple question: Can an XP Home edition system connect to
shares on a Win2000 Pro system? Please persuade me the
answer is yes...

Yes. All versions of Windows can share files and printers with each
other.

Win2000 Pro requires a known user account when deciding whether to
grant networked access to its shares. Create a user account on
Win2000 Pro with the same user name and password that you use to log
in to XP Home.
