Hi,
I need to map the admin share C$ of my laptop which is running XP home
edition to transfer files. I have no problem doing this on XP pro, or
Win2000. Am I not able to do this on XP home edition?
Thanks.

Quite possibly not.

The C$ share is an Administrative Share, only accessible to Administrators.
However, all access to an XP Home machine is forced via the Guest account.

So you may be out of luck.

You can, however, re-share the C: drive with a new share name.

yes you can.
Just make sure that you login with the correct
login/password for that machine (admin right are
neccesary)

By design, XP Home Edition doesn't have administrative shares. XP Pro
and 2000 Pro do.
