When I click "My computer" on the desktop and then click on C: drive, I
receive a message telling me to go to Control Panel and configure or install
system components. I've reloaded Windows XP home, but the message persists,
and still no sight of C: file directory.

Thoughts, please.

Look for info on the C drive by rightclickinhg its icon when you go to
start/run, and type DISKMGMT.MSC

Mark, thanks for your note. Your directions (right click on C: icon in
start/run showed disk information, said the drive is "healthy," and also
opened the directory using the "open" button. Double clicking the C: Drive
icon shown under the My computer icon, however, still does not work. Any
more ideas? I'll take them.

Good news, we have it now.

You have somehow created a 'autorun.inf' file in the C: root. Delete it ,
(no worry.) Some cd disk copy gave it to you, no doubt.
