Hello, I was wondering if anyone has had a similar
problem to me? It's a long-shot but here goes...
Sometimes (about 60-80% of the time) when I boot up my
Windows XP Home machine and reach the log-on screen I get
the following error: -
"vsmon.exe - Application Error"
"The instruction at "0x77eb5804" referenced memory
at "0x77eb5804".
"The required data was not placed into memory because of
an I/O error status of "0xc000009c".
"Click OK to terminate, CANCEL to debug".
Now I know this is part of Zone Alarm and I don't want to
run without a firewall. So, instead of logging in I
decide to reboot. I then end up with: -
"SAS window: winlogon.exe - Application Error"
"The instruction at "0x77ebc05e" referenced memory
at "0x77ebc05e".
"The required data was not placed into memory because of
an I/O error status of "0xc000009c".
"Click OK to terminate, CANCEL to debug".
These all sound pretty silly as the instruction is
accessing itself. Following this, I then get
the 'legendary' BS of D which simply says: -
"STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error}"
"The Windows Logon Process system process terminated
unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000006 (0x00000000
0x00000000)"
"The system has been shut down"
I've looked on the Knowledge Base but I can only find
similar articles usually relating to NT 4.0 (when I
search for the STOP message) and this is really bugging
me. Sometimes I get in fine, but a lot of the time I end
up with grief. I have noticed once before (but not since)
that if I continue to log in when I get the original
error message that my user name is not displayed in the
task list - I have no idea if this is related as I never
encountered it again.
Also, my copy of Windows XP Home is up to date, the only
updates I haven't installed are: -
Update for Microsoft Windows XP (KB826942) - WPA
Update for Jet 4.0 Service Pack 8 (KB829558)
Microsoft Windows Journal Viewer (Windows XP)
Windows Messenger 4.7
Microsoft .NET Framework version 1.1
Windows MovieMaker 2
System
P4 1.64Ghz
256Mb SD-RAM
nVidia GeForce4 Ti4400
Sound Blaster Audigy
40Gb Hard disk
Any other specs can be provided, just ask.
Right, over to you clever people...
