XP Home WinUpdate only some files..

Hi,

A friend of mine has a WinXP Home box where he has rerun the XP installation
(w/o deleting C:\Windows first).

When he runs windows update it connects correctly and receives the needed
update files list. However only about half of the needed files/patches are
successfully downloaded, the rest displays 'error in downloading'.

Any clue why he gets this error. His internet connection is ok (downloads
whatever in no time). Anti-virus software are updated and reports no
infections.

I'm not sure if he has installed SP2 or not. (Can I install an XP Pro SP2
on a XP Home computer or are they different?)

Thanks for any hints to have windows update on the tracks again w/o
reinstalling xp from scratch again..

best regards

Tor

SP-2 is SP-2 the same for all versions of Windows XP.
Install SP-2 first, most of the updates are incorporated and will not need
to be installed.
After SP-2 install the remaining updates from Windows Update.

Follow the Service Pack Installation Checklist to install SP-2:
