Hi all,

I get the following error message when I try to boot up my XP Home computer:

c:\WINDOWS\System32\Config\SYSTEM is missing or corrupt.

yet, when I boot to the cd and go in through recover mode, the file is in
the directory. How do I fix this without reloading the system from
scratch?

thanks,
charles.....

Find your original XP install cd, boot from the cd.
During the initial detection, it should find your original
install and offer an option to repair installtion. Select
the option and allow the system to restore. This should
fix your problem, however you will lose any recent XP
patches and hot fixes. You will have to download and
install them again. Good luck.

Thanks to all who replied. I did do all the research suggested and I tried
to do the repairs but alas XPH just didn't want to come alive. I ended up
doing a complete partition format and reload on the little Compaq. It is
up and running just fine.

thanks again,
charles......
