I tried to update my XP Home to Media Center 2005. Everything went well, no
problems, 30 minutes later after full install, I unlocked/registered the
software online and restarted. I found no visual differences at all. No media
center files were loaded, no new features. Any ideas?
D o you have to do fresh install to get the Media Center differences?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Windows Media Edition is not designed to upgrade over
Windows XP. It must be installed as a "clean install" on
a computer than has the necessary hardware to support its
features.

It is my understanding that Windows Media Center is not available as a
retail, stand-alone operating system. It is only included on OEM systems
from makers like HP, Sony, Dell and so on.

I actually did try to load it as a fresh install but it came back and said
that it could not locate a hard drive to load it on. I heard that there was
problems with SATA hard drives on XP installations. You need to turn off the
array function through CMOS prior to the install. Any truth to that ?

MCE 2005 is now available on the usual OEM type terms - if you buy a
suitable TV card for example
