XP home - two NICs causes Internet connectivity issues

Guest

I have a XP home pc with two NICs. One is connected only to a digital video
server. Its IP is static. The server has no other network connections. The
other NIC is connected to the rest of the network. The IP on this NIC is
dynamic. When both NICs are connected, I can access the rest of my network,
but CANNOT access the Internet. If I unplug the NIC connected to the Digital
Video server and wait a couple of seconds, I can get back onto the Internet.
Plug that NIC back in and I loose my Internet connection.

The static NIC address is on the same subnet as the dynamic, but it uses an
address not used by anything else. Should I change it and the server over to
another subnet? Or should I bridge the two adapters?

Any thoughts will be greatly appreciated.

Remove any default gateway specification from the network connection
that connects to the Digital Video server.

Make sure that the two networks use different subnets.

Don't bridge the connections.
