Purchased Xp Home Edition. I would like to upgrade to XP
Professional. The only option I seem to have is to
purchase Xp professional upgrade and pay the full Price
even though I already have most of what Xp has to offer.

I'm afraid the upgrade version of XP Pro is your only choice. You're
absolutely right that you "already have most of what XP has to offer".
Are you sure you need the few extra things that Pro enables?

Look at these pages to determine what you'll get, and whether it will
matter to you:

So - that's the rub. Why didn't you purchase Pro in the forst place if you
knew you wanted it?

Why would you like to upgrade? You already *have* Windows XP. Why buy it
all over again? Unless your computer is linked to a large corporate network
with its attendant connectivity and security issues, or unless you are a
high-end web developer who absolutely needs to test ASP code in a local IIS
environment (and if the acronyms are unfamiliar, you are not), then there is
not a single reason for changing from XP Home to XP Pro. XP Pro is in no way
qualitatively or quantitatively superior to XP Home. The two operating
systems are the same, exactly the same, byte for byte, feature for feature.
XP Pro does not differ from XP Home in the slightest way. It is in no way
"better" or more powerful.
If yours is a standalone home installation, XP Home is perfect for you.
Leave it as is.
