I recently upgraded a new computer from XP home to XP pro, and am
confused by the resulting user/account names.

If I open My Computer->Properties->General, the tab shows the version is
registered to "default" with a valid serial number.

Control panel->User Accounts shows only one user - "Larry" which is as
it should be.

In the folder c:\documents and settings\ there are sub-folders for "All
Users", "Default" and "Owner". Seems like one of these should be labeled
"Larry". If I go into the registry, settings for programs installed are
being stored in "default" keys, rather than "Larry".

I'm confused by this, and this is not how my other office computer is
organized.

Any thoughts, or anything I'm missing?

All WinNT OS's (NT, XP, 2k, 2k3) have the "All Users" and "Default Users" -
this is normal - "All Users" is where settings common to all users of the
computer go, "Default Users" is where the computer default setup comes from
when you create a new account/logon/profile (all the same). You also should
have an "Administrator", which is the default administrator setup, and
finally your "Owner", is most likely using "Larry" as an alias on the
"Logon" screen - go to Control Panel, User Accounts and see click on Owner
then click "Change my name" and see if Larry appears there?

"larry" is listed as one of my user accounts, both at startup, and in
control panel->User Accounts. My confusion happens when I look in
c:\documents and settings\ and see only the following folders:

All Users
Default
Default User (hidden folder)
Owner

I have another XP Pro computer where I see "Larry" listed, apparently in
place of owner. I'm used to navigating to this folder directly, and
used to following "Larry" into the registry, as well, and I'm just not
sure which identity is really being used. Also appears that "default" is
being used for what is typically called "Administrator".

UPGRADING XP sucks big time, my computer did also strange
things. First of all my pc is ten times slower now and
some programs need to be reinstalled because
somehow....they dont'shutdown automatic when Windows is
been shutdown. I learnt my lesson...again...already tried
to upgrade win98 to winMe, also failed to work.

JUST DON'T DO IT, CLEAN INSTALL IS BEST
