I operate program that does not work well with XP Home but

purchasing the upgrade?

That is very strange - XP Home is EXACTLY the same operating system as
XP Pro. All that Pro has that Home does not, is the ability to join a
domain and some security enhancements.

To email me replace the obvious!
.
I can not speak to that as I am simply a user of
programs. While I have not experienced specific problems
the vendor tells me that they have run into problems when
running XP Home.

Ask the vendor to be specific about why there were problems, and
specifically why XP Pro is required. It very well could becuase the
nature of the application requires XP Pro's features .. (but I have a
hunch this not the case). Report back here what they say.

What is the application? Does the vendor have a web site describing it?

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

Yes. But what program and what kind of trouble? Unless it was using a
purely Pro facility ( very few programs do, and if they need them then
they do not work in Home at all) changing the system will not make any
difference

Yes, XP Home to XP Pro is considered an upgrade.

No its not. XP Pro is EXACTLY the same OS as XP Home. All Pro has over home
is the ability to join a domain and some security enhancements. If you don't
join a domain and don't need the security functions, there is no need to
"upgrade" to Pro.

You've left out some details like Professional supporting two
processors and Home only one, but you are largely correct.

Nevertheless, the upgrade version of XP Professional *will*
upgrade XP Home, and in that sense, it *is* an upgrade.

Perhaps a "mutation" might be a better description? :-)
