My new computer came with XP Home. I own an older version of XP
professional. How do I get the XP Professional on my computer without
messing up any of the current settings?

Hi,
Its possible to "upgrade" your win XP home to win XP pro, keeping your
existing settings, programs and data. In the installation wizard of win XP
pro, in the installation type select upgrate. You could allow it to download
new setup files though. Hope this info is accurate.

Use another PC and create a newer XP Pro install CD that has SP2 "merged"
into it. This is more commonly known as "slipstreaming."

You can install Professional on another drive where home is not installed and
later remove the "home" entry from boot.ini. That should do it, i guess...

I don't have another drive or computer and don't how to do slipstreaming, but
think I could figure it out. I have a cd/rw drive. Would it be possible to
to download an upgrade straight to my curent software CD?
