Xp Home Slow Down

I am running Window XP Home With 1024 MB of merory.

All of the sudden my machine is running real slow, when I try to delete a
folder it takes up to 20 sec to display the conferm window.

When I execute a program it takes the same 20 or more sec to load.

any ideas where I should start looking.

Possibly viral or malware
Start by making sure your HDD isn't getting full, then do the
following from safe mode
1. delete all temp files
2. run an uptodate virus scan
3. run either or both of AD-Aware Spybot Search & destroy
lets know how it goes
