XP Home "settings are controlled by Group Policy"

I am getting " For your security, some settings are controlled by Group
Policy " when I go to the Windows Firewall settings page.
How is this possible in XP Home? I thought XP home did not support group
policies. The machine is not and has never been part of a domain.
How do I fix this?

You may want to scan your computer for viruses/trojans and other malware..

The answer is at the bottom of this thread. And it is quitely likely caused by a virus or other malware. XP Home does not support the Group Policy Editor, but the vast majority of the settings that can be changed exist in XP Home. You just have to change them differently.

That looks like a nice utility. In my case a repair install from CD fixed
the problem. I should have tried that before I posted here.
